Decoration DIY ACORNS

Why pay almost 10.00 dollars (or even $15.00) for something you can quickly make?! That’s what I thought!! So I went acorn hunting just like a little chipmunk. My mother and I filled our pockets with acorns every time we were on our morning walk. It was fun, I felt like a kid and we have wonderful memories walking, talking and picking up acorns together. It’s the warm simple things in life that really stick to your heart.

After our many trips I had enough and was ready to get to work! See?

I separated all of their “hats” and got ready to hot glue the right sized acorn body to the hat of choice. Here’s a hint: Find the right sized hat FIRST. Then start glueing! Simple as that…oh and don’t forget your music. It’s fun to rock out to get that acorn mojo working!

PERFECT! Now, I decided to spray the acorns GOLD, but go ahead and get crazy! Use whatever colors you desire.

Let dry and you are done! Quick, easy and I will use these every fall. This would be a fun project with your tween or teenager too! Even you and your significant other will feel accomplished after finishing this fun project. Now get out there and build your memories as you build your home.

Sign Idea to bring bling

What I started with was a purple $1.00 mini-frame…. what I ended up with was a classy silver frame!

I recommend this awesome spray!IMG_3257Let dry

Put back together…ooo pretty! Instant class!

I concidered framing paper flowers…

Instead,  made them welcome signs on each table….here’s how.

Pick paper to use

Test it out first on regualr paper…make sure you like your fonts and size before you print on the fantastic paper that you choose. IMG_2886

Cut to fit your frame and add beautiful sparkle tape (or whatever you’d like to spice up your greetings!)

Put them together and be thrilled with what you’ve made. It’s NOT hard and it leaves a fabulous impact…go have fun!

Frame mirrors, special pictures, re-use them for each event you have by printing new signs or even re-coloring them again and again! They can be great gifts or use them in your home. It’s a fantastic way to leave a big impact for little cost.

Shoes get sparkled!

Hi ladies!  I planned an event and did A LOT of do-it-yourself projects and pinched so many penny’s you could probably call me copper-fingers at this point. Let me tell you…it was WORTH it! I saved crazy amounts of cash, didn’t over stress about anything and the set-up/tear-down of the event was super easy.

So without further adue…here are my shoes!

Don’t they look so fancy on the washer and dryer? ha!

As you can tell, I have pretty small feet (!!!hint: shop in the kids section if you are smaller-toed…GREAT deals! Just ask the lovely sales person to help you translate sizes to find your fit.)

How did I add the pink??? Here’s the secret…

IMG_2889Yep! I found that with the right design of shoe-this tape is a quick and easy fix. PLUS,  if I want to I remove the tape, it’s easy and there is no damage to the shoe! (I’ll use the left over tape from my shoe in my scrapbooking…how cool is that?!?)

Here are the pics that got me there…AND don’t miss another DIY shoe!

Happy taping!

IMG_3199IMG_3206IMG_3207IMG_3208IMG_3202IMG_3201IMG_3203IMG_3204Of COURSE I added glitter on the bottom of my shoes too. Mod Podge, paint a design and glitter as you like. DONE.

The classic, relaxed, gamer Seattle Bride

I recently shot a beautiful brides wedding in Seattle WA. I’d known the groom since he was a pre-teen and I couldn’t be more pleased when they asked me to attend the wedding. His bride (now wife! Craziness how time does fly…) was stunning. Their wedding was the lavish Rose Garden with the reception by the ocean. They added sweet touches here and there creating a relaxed and classy garden-lace theme…it was a fantastic combination. I had a wonderful time shooting it. This wedding…out of all the weddings I’ve ever shot…absolutly WINS hands down for food. I STUFFED my pre-wedding bridal face and didn’t even care about the possible inches I was adding that I’d have to work off in the coming weeks in order to fit my own perfect wedding dress…my taste buds couldn’t get enough. PERFECT blends.

Her venue where the amazing Seattle food was:DSC_0086

Seattle Garden were picture backdrop options were endless: (I’ll only post a few, but OH MY there’s sooo many more I could share!)

Her shoes I loved because they were made with love by her sister and oh-so creative: I’m obsessed…

DSC_0231 DSC_0234 DSC_0240 DSC_0283 DSC_0246 DSC_0244 DSC_0242 DSC_0270 DSC_0283 DSC_0704 DSC_0454 DSC_0453

Little hints she gave that made their day really “their” day:

The bridal party and the brides parents played a guessing game before the big walk down the aisle while they hid in the brush (quit literally!) I was instructed not to make the bride feel too “watched” so I was super happy I got a chance to capture this family moment. AND BONUS! It really relaxed everyone! They were very distracted and REALLY into their game…it was hilarious.

The bridal party had a guys vs. girls tournament in the gazebo just moments before this signing the marriage license moment was captured. They raised their honored weapons (fairy wands and swords that represented the playful love and relationship of the newlyweds) in a “protective” knights in shining armor way. Again, the bride really knows her friends…they all laughed and continued to enjoy their romantically fun-filled day to honor their friends.

The bride and groom found each other in the midst of battle…too cute.

DSC_0005Another game-lovers choice…scrabble rings of love.
DSC_0121 DSC_0120

They do love their games, so these blocks were the CLEAR choice winner for this couple when it came to their guest book. EVERYONE was talking about this added touch all night…not only did guests enjoy the creative way they could leave their signature stamp of approval, but they knew the couple would play this game in the future and re-visit their names, re-live their special day and think fondly of each person in attendance.

Simple decor reflects the entire no-fuss attitude of the event…bright gerbera daisies were the PERFECT fit for the happy, relaxed & playful with classic twist waterfront atmosphere the couple strove for with their pop of green and orange colors.

DSC_0051 DSC_0093 DSC_0106DSC_0107

They love dinasorse…enough said. For them…absolute cuteness and heaven.

No pictures of the food…sorry folks. I sent them a few shots of it, but they wouldn’t let me work anymore because they wanted me to eat and enjoy myself. Every time I tried to sneak a food display shot or get up to take picture of the evenings events I got the bride stare-down, so of course, I complied & sat right back down…she was like a hawk! I was forced to enjoy myself and be a guest. Go to the Blue Ribbon yourself. It’s worth the drive. I know my tummy was VERY satisfied.

Fixing a Tiny Room…

Where I started: (sort of)DSC_0030Were I finished!

DSC_0039In a small space EVERY inch is important…so I re-purposed, up-cycled and put in the time to make our little bedroom workable.

Here’s the closet process…I always say, “START IN THE CLOSET.” Organize that, and you’ll be amazed how much room you find!

I want you to notice that the colors are easily found…it makes for a quick-ready morning. 🙂 The hangers are all hanging the same direction as well which makes it cleaner and easier to shuffle through them. Then notice the boxes…I’ve moved so many times, I had plenty of random sized boxes, so now they are storage bins! (I’ll cover them someday in prettiness) Lastly the 1970’s file cabinets. I added ribbon onto the drawers for easy open access (I added the top drawer ribbon after this pic was taken)

DSC_0034 DSC_0033

I found this great blog about how to save room in your drawer, so I tested it out in my up-cycled file cabinets. I decided tank tops and other cotton shirts were the first to be tested. I couldn’t believe how much SPACE it saved! Check it out…

I didn’t have the same luck with pants, so they are just stacked..I tried rolling it, but in these drawers it didn’t save any space.

DSC_0035I added a little glass table with a built-in lamp that previously I had in the living room. The boxes up top hold my hats, seasonsal items like swimsuits and summer covers and then there’s a gold sparkely gift bag (you can’t see) tucked on the side shelf that holds my nylons. The shag rug I’d previously had rolled up unused because I couldn’t find a place to put it…it has a new home now! Of course the work out ball is an incentive…if work out equipment is in my face, I use it!

DSC_0044I was pleased so far! 🙂

The closet we have is smaller than a normal closet. So more room was needed! Thankfully, I found a couple of racks in the storage downstairs that I could borrow, so those needed up free for me to borrow for now! Sweet! I liked where mine was placed in the room, but Jacobs was not working out. I put it behind the dresser…that was an awkward moment…to say the least.DSC_0038

We ended up liking the wardrobe on the side next to the dresser. Then I hung jewelery on the wall and hair ties and lovely pictures of us all puzzled together. Tetres really does help in life!

DSC_0040The box held his ties until I found a cute box to use..actually the box came to me…it was a gift! It worked out well. You cn also see the second-hand store vintage jewelery boxes on the dresser. They were a gift from my boyfriend (now husband), so we both get all warm-fuzzy now that they are front and center.

DSC_0039So all in all I spent nothing, but creativity and time. I used what I had & re-purposed them. Sure I lucked out on some borrowed items, but minimal. Although, if you asked your friends, they most likely have extra unwanted bangles and tidbits that you can create magic from. Have fun!

Forgiveness Please

I must admitlife has taken me on a whirlwind of events, mysteries and journey’s all of which I stopped documenting here on WordPress.

PLEASE forgive me!

To make up for this horrible oversight and disrespect, I plan on writing everday…every morning and possibly evening, so that I can catch you all up. (My only time off will be once I catch-up or on big performance days)

So much has happened…for one; I’m happily married and it’s no longer a secret…yeah–THAT happened. Two; I’m singing back-up for Elvis (impersonator of course!) and we are starting to tour Casino’s…maybe one near you?? Thirdly,  I’m writing songs again….it’s pouring out of me…and I’m writing my books again too! I’ve had deep loss and pain, but then overflowing love and healing all in less than a year…and I’ll share it all with you. And don’t you worry – you’ll see all my DIY’s too! YEP…I’m one of those ladies now too…well, I’ve always been a DIY person, just didn’t know it had an official title nor was I aware of all the WONDERFUL things one is able to DIY!

It’s been amazing…and I’m so thrilled to bring you all into the studio with me, into my secret-now public-marriage, ups & downs of finding my wings as a young at heart 30’s female singer and on the ballroom dance floor as a curvy shall we say voluptuous lady. (Thank God for all those ladies of history who had volume! Let us not forget the Mae Wests, Marilyn Monroe, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald and countless others who paved away for us lady performers now…and they were not on the paper-thin side. No sir-y!)

Hold on to your skirt honey…it’s a title wave of wonder and you know what?! For this organizational OCD freak of serious nature…I’ve gotten to hold onto the man of my dreams who is exactly OPPOSITE of what I thought I needed, discovered the greatness I kept locked up inside me wasn’t all that bad or scary AND I like mess. Why? Well, you see ladies and gents… it’s all my mess…and I FINALLY embrace it. I’ve even found my home. A very warm excepting place that is perfect in it’s imperfections…just the way I am.

Cheers to our messes! May they ever remain beautiful in our eyes.

What do you do when you lose your car? Spa! (Part 2)

Now that you’ve read my repo-prep Part 1, here is what happened the day-of…plus a little fun intro—enjoy! Because it’s just not worth stressin’ over…life happens. Laugh anyway.

Why mope around and sulk? Why allow feelings of negativity, sadness, helpless or failure creep in? You and I both know those choices lower your immune system and invite you to gracefully bow-out of life into the unforgiving sick-bed. NO THANK YOU to that hot mess!

I called the towing company a couple of days before to arrange for the car pick-up, so I made sure to clean out the vehicle and drink lots of water to help calm possible upset nerves or stomach.(see previous post) To avoid mental distractions, I chose not to mention the arrangement to anyone until the day-of, when I let my husband know that today was D-day. In the interim, I had insured he had lots of water too. Also, he’d wanted a colonic, and I knew the day after he’d had his first session, he would be tired or as I like to call it, the “colonic day of rest” would hit, so I’d hoped this would happen the day the towing truck would arrive to take away the car. It did. Let’s just say he was very relaxed…no extra stress was taking my man down! 🙂

As for myself, I was looking forward to an inexpensive DIY spa treatment.

SO…for all of you out there who are singing, “oops I lost my house” or “dang I lost my job” and in my case “frankincense and mir! I’ve lost my holiday-ride!” take this tip from me. Take care of yourself & do it, the old-fashioned way. If you have a partner, be sure to get them in on the spa-action too. Be creative, you’ll both need a bit of TLC mixed in with some of these spa-treatment ideas and moments to relax. Things happen in life, but don’t let it take you down.

p.s. Hugs go a loooooooong way.

This is what I did: (hope you like the pics too)

#1=Work out, more water and more work out! My husband and I hit the gym. (yep, he rallied even after his first ever colonic visit…he’s superman.) Remember: liquids + vitamins.

#2=Let the Spa begin!

  • Time to drain! As a singer, I have to sing even when I can’t talk, so that means I need tricks up my vocal-chord “sleeve” in order to allow the show to go on. One way is this helpful invention called NeilMed Nasel flow, which is a Neti-pot system. I’d had my hubby do this (with our filtered water OF COURSE!) a couple of days before, so he didn’t get run down. Today was my turn and that is how I decided to start my spa treatment session!

No's awekward, but TOTALLY worth it! Keeps me healthy so I can still sing

Neti-pot love: It’s pretty easy. Boil water in your tea-pot (we have the best water filter ever, but I boil it anyway. It’s more peace of mind and it feels better luke-warm rather than cold water…yuck). Mix the saline solution packet & water in the blue pot. Place spout comfortably in one nostril, tilt head and let it flow! My throat, ears and nose always feel a lot better. I wouldn’t recommend this on a spa-day if you’ve never done it before, but it was a great beginning to my afternoon of treatments for my body-care and needs.

  • After my nose was feeling the saline-neti-pot-love, it was time to focus on my hair. Get the hair prepped for a shiny new start with Baking Soda! I chose really simple DIY Spa treatments.

Just a spoon full of Baking Soda and drops of filtered water will help the relaxation medician go down!

Hair Paste: Mix together filtered water and Baking soda to create a paste. Put paste all over damp hair, pile hair on top of head and set timer for 20 minutes. Let mixture sit in hair. This is GREAT for removing gunk, dindge & unwanted product build-up! It was kind of messy, but an easy clean up.

  • My hot water was already warmed up from the epi-pot and ready for my face steaming session, so all I needed now was a spoon full of sugar…yum! I quickly (and easily) put together the body & face scrubs. See below.

Brown Sugar, Olive Oil and honey makes the body go wow

Here’s the body scrub: Brown sugar, olive oil & honey. There are MANY DIY scrubs to choose from, but again~I was keeping it simple. I made sure there was a nice balance of brown sugar to olive oil…I like more brown sugar then liquids…and then added a tsp or so of honey. Doesn’t it look glorious?!

Here’s the facial exfoliant (below): Brown sugar and honey. The picture is before they are mixed together (I used my ring finger to mix & apply to my face right before my shower.) Pretty simple huh? I set both mixers off to the side ready for later use. I still had my hair to wait for and I knew exactly what to do while waiting…

Honey and Brown Sugar!

  • Time to steam! To open the pores in my face and get ready for the wonderful sugar exfoliant awaiting me in the bathroom, I used my previously heated water as well as created a relaxing atmosphere. Grab something that takes you to a happy place that can participate somehow visually during your steam session. I chose a hand cockade heat-pad to put my steam bowl on. It was made by my grandmother and was a gift from her. When I saw it, I felt better, so I used it. I put some tranquil music on lightly in the background. I knew I had wonderful goodness waiting for me in the bathroom and my husband was recovering/resting in the bedroom. The kitchen dishes were stacked and ready to be washed later and I was ready to let life go for the next 5-8 minutes.

Hot filtered water, nestagia and let the steam facial begin.

Get Steamed: My grandmothers creme colored heat pad is placed under a clean pan I have. I grabbed some bright and cheery colored cloths to drape over my head and trap the steam in as well as a smaller cloth to dab my face. (choose more soothing colors if you’d like, just pay attention to what you are attracted to…listen!) Place large cloth over and behind head, drape to the sides of bowl while hovering over steamy water. Allow steam to comfortably breeze over face and let outside air in as desired. Breath slowly, calmly and release muscles in face and throat and finally the rest of the body. Clear mind and enjoy.

I took the face steam items to the bathroom with me. Here’s how it went and let me just say, I felt WONDERFUL afterwords.

  1. Mix facial scrub and begin lightly massaging mixture in circular motion on face, being careful of eye area and the tender skin there. My face was damp from the steam, so this process was heavenly. Rinsed off hands & pat dry.
  2. Lightly dry-scrub entire body with a small natural sponge using circular motions. Started at top of feet, up the legs, to the mid-section and ending finally at the upper body. A good dry-scrub helps flex off dry layers of skin as well as stirs the skins’ circulation-pot to get the blood flowing and ready for a nice showered sugar scrub.
  3. Put body scrub in shower, shut-off 20 minute hair timer & started the shower. My face was brown with my scrub, my hair was white with baking soda paste, my nose was draining from its earlier irrigation & I was NOT thinking of my repo. (I bet you forgot just now too huh?!) Time to get in the shower!
  4. Circular motions to help rinse off face, rinsed hair and then used my sugar scrub for the body. I would recommend concentrating on hand and interlaced finger massaging with the scrub and hitting the nails too. Of course be sure to scrub your toes and any rough areas. Scrub it all people!
  5. Rinse well to get all the sticky off!
  6. Pat dry
  7. Drink water & tea

The results?

I’ve never done this before and not only did I feel and see the awesome results for days (so did my husband), but I was relaxed and happy. I didn’t use a bunch of expensive chemicals on myself & I didn’t hurt the environment. I woke up my husband after I had taken care of myself, got him some water and he took care of the dishes for me. Then he enjoyed the sugar scrub too and used it up. Later, he and I went out and picked up my new-to-me used vehicle and when we returned home, the repo-man had come. That was that and THAT was alright with us. The rest of the night was … well spent. 😉

#3. Picked up my new used car from a friends house…making payments and fixing it up now.

#4. Remember…challenges equal opportunity.

Hope this helps you all too.
